The towns were large and complex with tall structures and cool focus effects. Sprites were much larger and had fantastic animation.
Part 4 streamlined the mechanics and improved on the story and graphics, but much of the game was recycled from 3.
I wish I could have played as Teepo in Ryu's place. Also, Deis (Bleu) is not playable, unlike 1,2, and 4. It also has a crybaby Ryu and an annoying, mentally challenged Nina who lacked the depth of the Ninas from 2 and 4 but had not a whit of the charm of the first Nina. PSP owners can look forward to an expansive fishing game, accessible as a separate mode of play. There is one confirmed addition to the game. The game now runs in wide screen format, of course, but it's hard to make out any major visual improvements. Debuting in this week's Famitsu and Famitsu PSP publications, the PSP version of Breath of Fire 3 doesn't look too far removed from the 1997 PlayStation original. When Capcom announced last week that the PSP would be receiving a version of Breath of Fire 3, the big question on everyone's mind was port or remake.
